High above Lincoln Park, this high-rise residence begins a new chapter for a couple leaving the suburbs for city life. They envisioned a warm modern home centered on art, light, and gatherings with family and friends. Sculptural portals, hand-applied plaster, and custom millwork transform a dated interior into a richly layered home that feels at once timeless and distinctly personal.

 

The existing space had sweeping views of Chicago and Lake Michigan, but its rigid geometry and concrete structure offered little warmth and felt closed off. The new design called for innovative architecture to integrate new lighting, a contemporary kitchen, and spa-like baths. A sequence of organic curves and framed openings now guides movement through the space, introducing moments of discovery as art and views are revealed gradually.

 

Oak, stone, and plaster establish a quiet material palette, rendering light and shadow as an architectural element in its own right. A chevron floor pattern adds texture and unifies the aesthetic throughout.

The floor plan balances social spaces with areas for retreat. A bespoke bar anchors the main living areas, encouraging connection and conversation, while a private guest wing offers quiet refuge for the clients' grown children during family visits.
